YANGON, Dec. 27 (Xinhua) -- An equestrian contest will be held in January at Yangon Equestrian Club here to mark the 64th Anniversary Independence Day which falls on Jan. 4, according to the Myanmar Equestrian Federation (MEF) on Tuesday.

Organized by Myanmar Equestrian Federation (MEF),the contest is scheduled to take place on Jan. 4, the sources said.

The contest will be categorized as dressage novice class, show jumping novice class, cavalry, galloping and racebarral classes.

Meanwhile, the first-ever equestrian tour was introduced starting August this year for locals as well as for tourists by selling the tickets.

MEF and Ayeindamar Travels and Tours, the only local company that specialized in horse riding tour, signed the MoU for the move in March, covering the tour in Hmawbi in Yangon, Bagan, Mandalay, Kalaw, Aung Pan and Pintaya.

Tourists are mainly interested in culture tour, adventure tour and trekking tour in the country.

Foreign visitors especially those from Malaysia and South Korea have much interest in joining horse-riding clubs in Myanmar's Yangon and Mandalay for the purpose of taking relaxation.

The federation has arranged tame horses for fresh horse-riders.

The event helps create opportunity to revive horse-riding tour which is vanishing in Myanmar.

MEF, which was founded in 1991, has grabbed 15 medals -- five golds, five silvers and five bronzes -- from the international competitions since 1998.
